What To Expect At Your Appointment

For all initial appointments, you will need to complete your intake paperwork (link above) before we make the appointment. We will send you a confirmation text reminder to confirm your appointment. It is very important to respond and confirm or cancel your appointment when we send the text reminder. We may not hold the appointment if you do not do so.

If you have a virtual appointment, you will need to connect with the psychotherapist using your laptop/mobile device or tablet using DOXY - the HIPAA compliant software - at the link provided in your confirmation text. If you don’t have the link, you may text or call us at our office number and we will resend it to you. At the time of your appointment, click on the link, enter the patient name (your name or the child’s name if you are a parent), and then simply wait until the psychotherapist joins the virtual call. Your device may ask for permission to use the microphone (audio) and video capabilities so please say yes so we can hear and see you. Please make sure you do not have your device muted.

It is important for virtual appointments to choose a quiet and comfortable space for your session so the psychotherapist can work with you effectively. We cannot do an appointment with you if you are in the car with other people or in a busy office or family room. To comply with HIPAA, we must maintain confidentiality with our patients.

If you are seeing the psychotherapist in-person, we ask that you please only bring the child that is being seen. We attempt to provide a quiet environment for patients and this is not possible if you bring multiple family members. All minors must have an adult in attendance at all times

The intake form includes an adult/child history form, the consent to treatment form, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act form which all need to be completed and signed prior to meeting the psychotherapist. Our location is 664 Scranton Rd Ste 201, Brunswick, GA 31520.

Sessions, including the initial intake session, typically last 45 to 60 minutes. The first session will be devoted to gathering information about you or the child’s situation, formulating some initial lines of clinical inquiry and diagnostic formulation and determining whether or not we feel a therapeutic alliance and effective treatment relationship can be established.  This process, leading up a conclusive diagnosis, may take up three to four sessions altogether.

For psychological testing, we start with an initial diagnostic interview to ascertain what types of testing are necessary, then we conduct the testing both virtually and in-office. We also send various online tests and rating scales by email that can easily be complete online and once completed come back to us automatically. Please look out for these to ensure they are returned in a timely manner and so as not to delay results. We can not complete the evaluations without these tests.

If we accept your insurance, we will bill your insurance company on your behalf and will expect to collect your co-pay/co-insurance at the time of your appointment. Please note that some testing is not available through insurance and we only accept self-pay in these instances. This is when the testing is extensive or reimbursement is not-commensurable with the time and expense provided with the evaluation. This will be communicated prior to the appointment.

If we determine that we are not a right match for you, we will provide a referral to another provider.

All appointments are confidential.
